Pediatric Heart Center
The departments of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Heart Surgery with a regular and specialized pediatric cardiologic ICU as well as the Heart Catheter Lab and the Pediatric Heart Surgery constitute the Pediatric Heart Center of Heidelberg University Hospital.

Treatment of pediatric heart diseases
Here, children with congenital heart diseases and severe heart diseases are treated with an interdisciplinary approach.

Department for Pediatric Cardiology / Congenital Heart Diseases
Prof. Dr. Matthias Gorenflo is the Medical Director of the Department for Pediatric Cardiology / Congenital Heart Diseases. The Center treats around 4,500 patients per year, 900 of which are hospitalized.

Catheter lab
The state-of-the-art catheter lab allows for the precise examination of cardiac anomalies.

Heart catheter examinations
In 2014, 418 heart catheter examinations were performed here, 154 of which were catheter interventions (occlusion of defects, etc.).

Division for Pediatric Heart Surgery
Prof. Dr. Tsvetomir Loukanov (Head of the Section Pediatric Heart Surgery) and his experienced team perform around 350 heart surgeries on children and infants every year.

Pediatric heart operating room
The Pediatric Heart operating room offers state-of-the-art technical equipment...

...so that even complicated procedures can be performed on infants.

Live recording
A special camera is integrated in the OR light to record surgeries live...

...and broadcast them on a large screen within the operating room.

Proven expertise
The proven expertise of the Pediatric Heart Center also includes the treatment of extremely complex diseases, such as malformations of the trachea, the aorta or congenital univentricular hearts in infants.

Post-op monitoring
Post-op monitoring and inpatient care is performed in the intensive-care as well as regular unit with state-of-the-art equipment.
