Department of Ophtalmology
The Heidelberg University Eye Clinic is one of the most modern clinics of its kind in Germany. It has all the necessary facilities for conservative and ophthalmic surgical treatments, including modern laser surgery. Thanks to intensive research activities and close cooperation with industry, state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical methods are offered, such as femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.
Laser or microsurgical correction of vision defects is offered in the Refractive Surgery Department (“Seeing without glasses”). Other areas of focus include the treatment and surgical care of patients with corneal diseases, corneal transplants, keratoconus, cataracts, glaucoma, eyelid surgery, and retinal diseases.
As part of a maximum care hospital, the eye clinic works on an interdisciplinary basis with other departments such as neurology and the pediatric clinic.
