Welcome to the Department of Vascular Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital
Together with our well-qualified nursing staff, our highly trained and experienced medical specialists will provide you with the latest therapeutic treatment that meets the standards set by medical professional associations, using state-of-the-art medical equipment.
You, the patient, are the focus of all our activities. Our team is constantly striving to improve the state of your health and to make your hospital stay as pleasant as possible.
The Vascular Clinic at Heidelberg University Hospital was certified with the seal of approval of the German Society for Vascular Surgery in 2005. Heidelberg is therefore among the leading vascular surgery centers in Germany whose excellence has been proven by independent review. We place special emphasis on close, interdisciplinary cooperation. Vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, angiologists, neurologists, nephrologists, pharmacologists, anesthesiologists, and diabetologists work together to create an optimal, interdisciplinary treatment plan for you. External patients can also be presented to this team by their treating doctors to receive a recommendation for a treatment plan.
Every year we treat nearly 6,000 inpatients and outpatients. Our areas of specialization are the surgical treatment of arteriosclerotic obstruction in the arteries of the leg and foot, dilation of the aorta (aortic aneurysm), vascular changes caused by diabetes (e.g. diabetic foot) and constriction of the carotid arteries (carotid stenosis) for the prevention or treatment of strokes.
Our exceptional technical resources include color-coded duplex-sonography, intra-operative quality control with angiography and flow measurements, three-dimensional, computer-assisted planning of aortic surgery, neuromonitoring during carotid artery surgery, and vacuum sealing of wounds.
Depending on the individual situation, treatment options include endovascular surgery, open surgery, or in collaboration with our partners in the internal medicine department, pharmacological therapy. No matter your situation, you will receive an optimal treatment solution from a single source.
Our areas of specialization include:
surgical therapy of abdominal aortic aneurysm (open and endovascular),
surgical therapy of thoracic aortic aneurysm (open and endovascular),
surgical therapy of aortic dissection,
treatment of peripheral arterial obstructive disease,
and treatment of carotid artery stenosis and diseases of the supra-aortic arteries.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need further clarification.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
