Welcome to the Perinatal Center at the Heidelberg University Women’s Hospital
We believe in innovative prenatal diagnosis, careful prenatal medicine, and modern obstetrical care to the highest international standards: we combine highly advanced medical technologies with gentle methods to give you the best possible start to parenthood.
The Perinatal Center at the Heidelberg University Women’s Hospital is one of the largest centers of its kind in Germany. Here obstetrician-gynecologists and specially trained pediatricians work closely together. In addition to the labor and delivery units, we have a neonatal intensive care unit in the same building, where premature infants from 23 weeks of gestation and sick newborns are cared for according to a unique concept of care. A pediatric specialist is present around the clock.
The close collaboration under one roof between obstetrician-gynecologists, midwives, and pediatricians, together with counseling services for expectant parents, guarantees reliable and personal support beginning in pregnancy through delivery and afterwards. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, you are in good hands with us. You can be sure of a maximum of medical care around-the-clock, seven days a week.
The holistic care concept at the Heidelberg University Women’s Hospital has been well received. About 1,600 children are born here every year. In addition to offering state-of-the-art medical technology, we also offer a number of alternative birthing methods.
One of our areas of specialty at the Heidelberg University Women’s Hospital is in prenatal diagnosis. In addition to conventional ultrasound testing, we work with innovative 3D and 4D diagnostic procedures, which provide a precise look at the unborn child and his or her physiological functions. We also use cardiotocography (CTG) to monitor fetal heart rate during pregnancy. These devices enable us to obtain a precise recording without significantly inconveniencing the patient. They also make it possible to monitor twins simultaneously.
If significant problems arise during pregnancy, such as the onset of premature labor, they can be well managed in our labor unit. Frequently, our experienced physicians can prevent a premature birth by using specific interventions, or if this is not possible, can gain additional time before the birth. Our labor unit has 14 beds. Midwives and professional nurses with many years of experience in labor and delivery provide for your care, and the pediatrician participates in ward rounds at regular intervals.
Our range of services includes
- ultrasound diagnosis,
- nuchal translucency test,
- prenatal diagnostic counseling,
- invasive diagnosis and prenatal medicine,
- and post-partum care.
We wish you all the very best during your pregnancy.
