Among the leading vascular surgery centers in Germany

The Vascular Clinic at Heidelberg University Hospital was certified with the seal of approval of the German Society for Vascular Surgery in 2005. Heidelberg is therefore among the leading vascular surgery centers in Germany whose excellence has been proven by independent review. We place special emphasis on close, interdisciplinary cooperation. Vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, angiologists, neurologists, nephrologists, pharmacologists, anesthesiologists, and diabetologists work together to create an optimal, interdisciplinary treatment plan for you. External patients can also be presented to this team by their treating doctors to receive a recommendation for a treatment plan.

Areas of Specialization

Every year we treat nearly 6,000 inpatients and outpatients. Our areas of specialization are the surgical treatment of arteriosclerotic obstruction in the arteries of the leg and foot, dilation of the aorta (aortic aneurysm), vascular changes caused by diabetes (e.g. diabetic foot) and constriction of the carotid arteries (carotid stenosis) for the prevention or treatment of strokes.

Our exceptional technical resources include color-coded duplex-sonography, intra-operative quality control with angiography and flow measurements, three-dimensional, computer-assisted planning of aortic surgery, neuromonitoring during carotid artery surgery, and vacuum sealing of wounds.
